Cafe Scientifique: Big Food Companies: Friend or Foe in the Fight Against Obesity and Chronic Disease?

The Department of Biomedical Physiology and Kinesiology and Faculty of Science invite you to attend the second of five Café Scientifique events featuring discussions on health-related topics. Café Scientifique is a concept used around the world to describe an informal discussion, rather than a public lecture, between researchers and members of the community.

Dr. Diane Finegood will lead the discussion on Wednesday November 9th (7:30 – 9 PM) at Central City Brew Pub next to the SFU Surrey campus. She will be accompanied by the Chief Medical Officer of Fraser Health (Dr. Paul VanBuynder) and the Vice President of the Canadian Restaurant and Food Services Association (Mark Von Schellwitz). Fast food giants are often blamed for driving the epidemics of obesity and chronic disease, but in a fast paced world with rising food prices they provide a convenient and cheap source of calories. Can these giants change to meet our need for a healthier food supply and whether we as consumers will help them change?

Admission is FREE and appetizers will be provided.
